Poker Casinos in Los Angeles County

Los Angeles County is home to 7 huge poker casinos. These are state-licensed and regulated by the California Bureau of Gambling Control.

Card rooms are licensed to play Texas Hold'em, Omaha and Omaha Hi/Low Split, however card rooms are prohibited from offering house-banked games such as blackjack rules and other traditional table games. In California house-banked games are the exclusive right of Indian casinos.

In recent years some of the larger card rooms have modified blackjack by replacing the house as the bank with players taking turns as the dealer. Similar changes have been made to craps, EZ Baccarat, Pai Gow Poker and Casino War as a way to allow these games in card rooms.

As a result three California tribes have filed a lawsuit in federal court against the State for allowing these new games. The lawsuit was filed in January 2019 by the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, who owns the Cache Creek Casino in Northern California, the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians, who owns the Viejas Casino in San Diego County and the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, owners of the Sycuan Casino in San Diego County.

Which ever way this lawsuit is finally decided will have a profound effect on the future of all California card rooms.

There are no Indian casino in Los Angeles County but there are several within driving distance. The closest Indian Casino is 65 miles from downtown LA, San Manuel Casino in San Bernardino County.
